SPAR International has extended its agreement with Solum as a preferred supplier of electronic shelf labels (ESL) and digital signage, reinforcing its push to support retailers with digital in-store technology.

The renewed partnership means SPAR-licensed organisations worldwide can access Solum’s ESL and E-Paper display solutions, alongside a range of digital signage formats designed for different store environments.

Solum’s offering includes its Newton Core+ ESL platform and Newton E-Paper 32-inch series, as well as bar-type, dual-type and standard digital signage. These solutions enable retailers to manage pricing and in-store messaging more efficiently while also creating digital touchpoints that can be used for shopper engagement and retail media opportunities.

The Preferred Supplier programme is designed to help SPAR partners evaluate and adopt proven solutions more easily, while maintaining flexibility to suit local market needs.

Tom Rose, head of international operations at SPAR International, said: “This selection is intended to support SPAR licensed organisations in more easily assessing and adopting proven digital solutions. By working with partners that can provide consistent quality and support, we aim to help strengthen digital capabilities across different market environments.”

Electronic shelf labels are increasingly being adopted across the convenience sector to improve pricing accuracy, reduce labour costs associated with manual label changes, and enable faster promotional execution. Solum has recently announced partnerships with Waitrose and Lincolnshire Co-op to deploy ESLs across both retailers' entire store estate.

Daniel Lee, CEO of Solum Europe, said the partnership reflected confidence in the company’s ability to support retailers globally.

“Being chosen as a Preferred Supplier by SPAR International reflects trust in Solum’s ability to reliably supply and support ESL and digital signage solutions across diverse retail environments,” he said. “We will continue to respect SPAR’s brand values and operating principles, while supporting SPAR organisations in using digital technologies in a practical and flexible way.”

Founded in 2015 as a spin-off from Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Solum specialises in display technologies, power solutions and ESL systems.

SPAR International said the agreement forms part of its wider strategy to help retailers modernise stores while improving operational efficiency and enhancing the shopper experience.
