SPAR brand offers over 40 new evening meal solutions

SPAR has continued to develop its portfolio of evening meals solutions by creating over 40 unique combinations for customers to try.

Available from Thursday, 10th September, the new range includes pizzas, chilled breads, ready meals and an array of prepared vegetables will be available across all UK stores.

The launch is part of SPAR’s first ever ‘mix and match’ where shoppers can choose a main and side for the price of £5.

In addition, the range will include a number of SPAR brand desserts which has had a boost over the last 12 months following the introduction of several new products.

Myles Mersh, SPAR UK assistant brand manager, said: “It is essential to attract meal for tonight shoppers. Our new mix and match evening meal deal for two will encourage shoppers to cross-purchase and will keep them coming back again. This will signal SPAR as a genuine destination for the dinner mission and drive sales in-store.

“Ninety-five percent (95%) of the ready meal market is in own-label and with seventy-one percent (71%) of consumers already looking to ready meals for a midweek meal solution; we know that seventy-nine percent (79%) of those customers would be interested in a meal deal mechanic.

“That’s why we are confident our new mix and match scheme will be a great hit with SPAR shoppers.”

Ten new products are being added along with three ready meal lines, four prepared veg lines, two pizzas and one chilled flatbread.

Mr Mersh added: “We know that vegan, healthy and low-fat products, ethically sourced meat and world cuisine are very popular and our range of SPAR own label products perfectly complement these trends.”

SPAR’s evening meal deal launch will be supported with POS, social media, e-newsletters, in-store radio bulletins and in merchandising guides.

Interest rate cut: Bira warns of troubles still ahead

Bira (British Independent Retailers Association), which represents over 6,000 independent retail businesses across the UK, has warned that they face troubled times ahead despite today's Bank of England interest rate cut to 4.5 per cent, as the Bank halves its growth forecast for 2025 to just 0.75 per cent.

"The reduction in interest rates was expected and is welcome news for the retail sector," said Bira CEO Andrew Goodacre. "We have consistently maintained that rates have unnecessarily remained high for longer than required, and we anticipate this reduction will help boost consumer confidence."
