After nearly seven decades as a family-run business, Clark’s Garage on Chigwell Road has changed hands, marking the end of an era for the Woodford Green landmark.

The business, comprising a petrol station, convenience store and MOT/workshop, has been sold to JP&S Services, the Wembley based independent forecourt operator.

Family-owned since 1956, Clark’s Garage has been run by Gary and Andrew for over 30 years and was sold due to retirement.

“First and foremost, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our loyal staff and customers who have supported us over the years, many of whom knew both our father and grandfather,” Gary and Andrew commented.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to sell the forecourt, but we felt the time was right for someone new to breathe fresh life into the site.

“Finally, we wish the JP&S team every success in their new venture. We take great comfort in knowing the business is now in the hands of highly professional operators who genuinely care about the wellbeing of both staff and the local community.”

This would be the 16th store for JP&S Services, owned by Visvanathan Yoganathan. The deal also includes the neighbouring site on Chigwell Road.

“We are delighted to have acquired this exceptional forecourt, which holds a longstanding history in such a prominent and well-regarded location. It’s a privilege to take on a site that has clearly been a valued part of the local community for many years. The Clark family have for generations put their heart and soul into nurturing this business and serving the community,” JP&S Services said in a statement.

“We’re looking forward to meeting the loyal customers and dedicated staff who have supported the business over time. Our team is excited to begin work on our redevelopment plans, which will focus on elevating the customer experience and ensuring the site continues to serve the community to the highest standard.”

The sale was managed by Lewis Last, associate director at Christie & Co, who added: “It is an honour to have brokered the sale of Clark’s Garage, a forecourt that has remained in the same family for over 75 years across three generations. I would like to thank Gary and Andrew for entrusting us with the sale of such a high-value and deeply sentimental asset.

“I would also like to congratulate the JP&S team on their successful acquisition. Their vision to build upon the legacy of the Clark name, while enhancing the retail offering and customer experience for both loyal and new customers, is inspiring. I’m looking forward to seeing the site post-development, as the team has some exciting plans!”
