Taking place on Saturday 5 September, the Yorkshire Three Peaks trek will see the 10 hospices across Lancashire and South Cumbria unite with one shared goal: to raise vital funds for hospice care in their local communities.

Participants will tackle the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks – Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough – in a single day, covering 24 miles and 5,200 feet of ascent. It’s a challenge that promises breath-taking views and the chance to make a real difference.

The exciting collaboration will see the following hospices take part:

  • East Lancashire Hospice, Blackburn
  • Pendleside Hospice, Burnley
  • Derian House Children’s Hospice, Chorley
  • St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston
  • Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children’s Hospice, Blackpool
  • Queenscourt Hospice, Southport
  • St Catherine’s Hospice, Preston
  • St John’s Hospice, Lancaster
  • Rossendale Hospice, Rawtenstall

Sponsoring the collaborative event is SPAR through its association with James Hall & Co. Ltd, SPAR’s primary retailer, wholesaler, and distributor for the North of England.

The company’s support will play a vital role in ensuring that more funds can go directly towards caring for local patients and families.

“Hospices provide such a wonderful service to the communities that they serve," said Philippa Harrington, Marketing Manager for James Hall & Co. Ltd. "We want to support that work and ensure people living in Lancashire and South Cumbria can continue to access that expert care when needed.

“SPAR has a really strong brand presence across the region that the collective covers, often with SPAR stores just around the corner from the hospices. The community connection between us is already there so sponsoring such an iconic fundraising and awareness event for the collaborative is a great opportunity.”

Speaking on behalf of the collaborative, Catherine Butterworth, Director of Income Generation at St John’s Hospice, Lancaster, said: “The support of SPAR, through James Hall & Co. Ltd, is absolutely central to making this event possible. Their long‑standing presence at the heart of our communities mirrors the role hospices play for local families.

“This partnership shows how businesses with strong regional roots and significant reach can make a meaningful, practical difference by backing collaborative initiatives that deliver real social impact at scale.”

A team of walkers from James Hall & Co. Ltd will participate in the event, and with the company’s SPAR Distribution being in Preston, the team will walk with the group from St Catherine’s Hospice as the local hospice for the city.

Anybody wanting to sign up for the event can do so through the page on St Catherine’s Hospice website here.

The initiative was inspired by the hospices’ partnership as charity beneficiaries of the Lancashire Business View Magazine Red Rose Awards in 2025.

Rather than splitting the overall amount and each hospice receiving a £500 donation, the hospices wanted to create a bigger impact by launching this collaborative event, aiming to raise £60,000 to support patients and families across the region.
