Veteran Scottish retailers Bill and Tina Adye are set to hand over the reins of Drummore Stores after more than 50 years at the heart of the village community.

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has been instructed to market the convenience store and post office on Mill Street in Drummore, near Stranraer, as the long-standing owners prepare to retire while remaining in the area.

Often described as the most southerly shop and post office in Scotland, Drummore Stores serves residents and visitors to the seaside village and is widely regarded as an important local hub. The business sits on the Rhins of Galloway peninsula, a popular coastal area known for its scenery across the Irish Sea.

The sale includes the adjoining residential property at 22 Mill Street, which has historically been used as the family home for the owners of the shop.

Bill and Tina Adye bought the store more than five decades ago after visiting Drummore on holiday. Having relocated permanently from England, the couple have operated the business for over 50 years and say they are now ready to step back from the day-to-day running of the store.

“After more than five decades at the heart of this wonderful community, Tina and I feel it’s the right time to enjoy our retirement while remaining in the village we love,” Bill said.

“Drummore Stores has been a huge part of our lives, and we are proud of the role it has played in serving local residents and visitors alike. We look forward to seeing new custodians take over and enjoy the store as much as we have, continuing its tradition as a vital hub for the area.”

Christie & Co business agent Martin Ward, who is managing the sale process, said the opportunity is likely to attract buyers seeking a rural lifestyle alongside a community-facing business.

“We expect this opportunity to appeal to individuals seeking a quiet rural lifestyle in a peaceful location whilst operating one of the hubs of the village and being part of a fantastic local community,” he said.

“Nestled on the stunning Rhins of Galloway peninsula, Drummore is Scotland’s most southerly village, a coastal haven with sweeping views of Luce Bay and the Mull of Galloway. If you’re looking for a slower pace of life, fresh sea air, and a welcoming community, Drummore is the perfect place to call home.”

Drummore Stores is on the market with an asking price of £335,000.
