86 participants from across the newspaper and magazine industry joined forces to raise funds and awareness for industry charity NewstrAid during its virtual Trivia Challenge last Thursday (15).

A total of 16 teams took part in the fast-paced online event, which brought together colleagues from across the sector for an afternoon of friendly competition, entertainment and fundraising.

Sponsored by NewsTeam, the challenge saw teams battle it out through a series of trivia questions, alongside entertaining photo and video tasks designed to test their creativity, teamwork and quick thinking.

After a closely fought competition, a team from Smiths News emerged as the overall winners, claiming the top prize of £200 and the title of NewstrAid Trivia Challenge Champions 2026.

As well as providing an opportunity for industry colleagues to connect and enjoy some friendly rivalry, the event helped raise valuable funds and increase awareness of NewstrAid's work supporting people from the newspaper and magazine industry who are facing financial, emotional or practical difficulties.

"It was fantastic to see so many people from across the industry getting involved in our Trivia Challenge," said Neil Jagger, Chief Executive of NewstrAid. "The event was a great demonstration of the enthusiasm and generosity that exists within our sector. Events like this are about much more than fundraising. They also give us an important opportunity to remind people that NewstrAid is here to support anyone who works, or has previously worked, in the sale and distribution of newspapers and magazines, including retailers, shop staff, wholesalers and delivery drivers.

"We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part, helped organise a team or supported the event. Special thanks must also go to NewsTeam for sponsoring the challenge and helping us make it such an enjoyable occasion."

The charity provides free and confidential financial assistance, emotional wellbeing support and practical advice to people from across the newstrade community who are experiencing difficult times.

Jagger added: "Congratulations to our winning team, from Smiths News, and thank you to all the participants for embracing the challenge with such enthusiasm. We hope everyone enjoyed taking part and, importantly, came away knowing a little more about the support NewstrAid can offer to colleagues across our industry."
