SPAR UK has recalled its Clayton Park Kitchen Chicken & Mushroom Sauce after it was found to potentially contain undeclared soya, prompting a food allergy alert from the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The recall affects all 440g packs of the chilled product, with all use-by dates included. According to the FSA, the product may contain soya that is not declared on the label, posing a health risk to anyone with a soya allergy or intolerance.
Clayton Park Bakery is owned by James Hall & Co. Ltd, the primary wholesaler to SPAR retailers throughout the North of England.
Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected product from sale and ensure recall notices are displayed in stores to inform customers.
The affected product is:
- Clayton Park Kitchen Chicken & Mushroom Sauce
- Pack size: 440g
- Use by: All dates
SPAR has advised customers who have purchased the product and have a soya allergy not to consume it. Instead, they should return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
“SPAR UK would like to sincerely apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused,” the retailer stated in the customer notice.
The FSA said it has advised SPAR to contact the relevant allergy support organisations to help communicate the recall to affected consumers.
