bp has extended its partnership with food redistribution charity Felix, providing multi-year flexible funding to help expand surplus food redistribution across the UK.
The renewed agreement will support Felix's core operations, allowing the charity to direct funding where it is most needed and strengthen the infrastructure underpinning large-scale food redistribution.
The organisations said the funding could enable Felix to deliver the equivalent of 10 million meals to children and their families during the first year of the partnership.
The latest agreement builds on bp's support for Felix and FareShare, which began in 2022 with funding to expand fresh and frozen food distribution capacity and help cover fuel costs.
Last year, bp also became a founding supporter of Felix's South London depot, including the Felix Food Factory, which collects, repurposes and distributes surplus food to communities in need. That support will continue under the extended partnership.
The announcement follows the merger of FareShare and The Felix Project earlier this year, creating a single organisation operating as Felix that now supports around 1.5 million people across 99 per cent of UK postcodes.
“bp has supported The Felix Project and FareShare for several years, separately helping them to expand capacity and get more surplus food to people who need it,” Louise Kingham, head of country, UK, at bp, said.
“We are pleased to provide flexible, multi-year funding that can help to strengthen the infrastructure behind food redistribution across the UK as we also look to raise awareness of food insecurity and encourage practical action to reduce food waste.”
Charlotte Hill, chief executive of Felix, said demand for food support continued to outstrip supply.
“The number of people experiencing food insecurity and struggling to afford enough good food to eat is very high, and the demand for our food is far outstripping supply,” she said.
“Felix is doing all it can to rescue surplus food and get it to the people who need it most, but to continue our work, funding is vital. We are so grateful to bp for their support; this money will not only help us to cover our costs but also to ensure we can strengthen and expand our work.”
The partnership combines Felix's national food redistribution network with bp's UK retail presence, with the organisations saying it will help ensure more surplus food reaches communities in need.
