Abu Bakr Supermarket has launched its annual Ramadan sale across its stores in Leeds and Batley, unveiling special offers on essential food items as Muslim households across Yorkshire prepare for the holy month.

The Ramadan promotion includes discounted staples such as Elephant Medium Flour 25kg, Habib Basmati Rice 20kg, Shan Spices, Willow Butter Case, T&L Sugar Case, Tamara Ajwa Dates 450g, Heera Gram Flour 2kg, Heera Sunflower oil, 5lt, Hamdard Roohafaza, TYJ Pastries, Regal Sauces 500 ML and Elmlea single/Double Cream helping families manage household costs while shopping for daily iftār and suḥūr meals. The sale is now live across Abu Bakr’s Yorkshire locations.

Ramadan and Eid are key periods for retail in the region. Industry research estimates that British Muslims spend up to £1.3 billion nationally during Ramadan, with supermarkets accounting for a significant share of that activity.

Yorkshire is home to approximately 442,000 Muslims, and the correct way to assess economic impact is by household rather than individuals:

Estimated households: 442,000 (according to the 2021 cencus data) ÷ 3.8 = 116,000 families

Average household size: = 3.8 people

Average spend per household during Ramadan and Eid: = £1,500

Total estimated spend: 116,000 × £1,500 = £174 million

Even a conservative estimate: 110,000 households × £1,200 = £132 million

This total includes food, clothing, gifts and charitable giving, and represents a substantial boost to the Yorkshire economy.

When local supply chains, staffing, logistics and reinvestment are included, analysts suggest that the Abu Bakr Ramadan Sale could account for a significant amount of the £174 million in wider economic activity across the region, supporting independent retailers, local jobs, and regional suppliers.

Commenting on the launch, Hamza Hussian, CEO of Abu Bakr Supermarket, said, “Ramadan is a deeply important time for our customers and the wider Yorkshire economy. Our Ramadan Sale is designed to support families with affordable essentials, while also driving footfall, employment and spending across local businesses.”

He added: “As a Yorkshire-based retailer, we work closely with local suppliers and staff, meaning the increased demand we see during Ramadan has a direct and positive impact on the regional economy.”

With a strong presence across Yorkshire, Abu Bakr Supermarket is well positioned to meet increased demand throughout Ramadan while continuing its role as a trusted, community-focused retailer with a focus on social responsibility.

The Supermarket recently launched a new healthy eating campaign aimed at helping children consume their recommended “5 a day” portions of fruit and vegetables more easily and affordably.

The company has also partnered with schools in the region to launch brand-new food innovation competitions for pupils at schools across Yorkshire.

Abu Bakr Super Market is also set to announce a plethora of new initiatives including a link up with the Forget Me Not Hospice, who provide a vital service to children undergoing end of life care whilst also providing support for their families.
