Exclusive: Drink spiking safety kits to make retail debut with launch in leading Glasgow stores

Xantus, the internationally acclaimed brand specialising in drink spiking and alcohol safety prevention kits, is set to make its UK retail debut with a high-profile launch in two award-winning Scottish convenience stores.

Glasgow-based Girish Premier, run by award-winning retailer Girish Jeeva, and SPAR Motherwell Road, run by Daniall Nadeem, will be the first retail partners for the range, with in-store activity starting at the end of August.

Speaking to Asian Trader about the launch, Danny Panesar, founder of Ninja Guardian Ltd (the exclusive UK supplier of Xantus), said, "The launch is scheduled for the end of August, perfectly timed for the back-to-school season as colleges and universities return, and as everyone comes back from their holidays.

"I have had the privilege of meeting with two exceptional, multi–award-winning retailers to discuss my proposal.

"Both are forward-thinking and committed to moving with the times whether it’s tackling climate change, embracing new products, or adopting innovative technology all with one shared goal which is looking after their customers."

Both Jeeva and Nadeem are among the leading convenience retailers in Scotland in terms of innovation, use of tech in retail and bringing ground breaking services in their stores such as 24-hour rapid delivery.

Sharing about his thought process on why he decided to launch Xantus in his store, Jeeva told Asian Trader, "We’re constantly on the lookout for brands that bring something genuinely fresh to the table, and Xantus immediately stood out.

"It’s not just the product though that speaks volumes it’s the intent and clarity of purpose behind it. Danny’s approach is grounded, considered, and refreshingly unforced.

"This is a growing concern, and to be given the opportunity to be the first retailer in Scotland to offer a product that has the potential to save lives is something we take seriously.

"The decision to stock Xantus wasn’t just commercial it was a values-led choice, and one we’re proud to make."

A strong educational component will underpin the launch of Xantus with special focus on raising public understanding of drink spiking risks, date rape drugs and safety practices.

Panesar explained, “Education is the key. Many members of the public and even retailers don’t fully understand what drink spiking is, what substances are commonly used, or how to stay safe.

“Our website is dedicated entirely to raising awareness about drink spiking. We provide comprehensive information on the most common drugs used in spiking; how to protect yourself and others; what to do in an emergency; and safety tips for nights out and public venues.

"This same information will be shared across all of our social media platforms, ensuring the message reaches as many people as possible.”

Going further, retailers joining the initiative will be supplied with flyers and posters carrying key safety messages, floor display stands showing real drink spiking statistics, and marketing materials designed to spark conversations with customers.

Panesar said, "We believe the most powerful way to make a change is to speak directly with the community. That’s why we’ll have a dedicated sales representative myself visiting participating retailers.

"I will spend full days in the two stores (Girish's Premier and SPAR Motherwell Road) for the launch, from opening until closing, meeting customers, sharing vital information, and raising awareness.

"My work and business is deeply personal as I am a survivor of a serious assault and drink spiking, and I know how important it is to have these conversations openly.

"Customers will hear my story first-hand, and I hope it will inspire understanding, empathy, and action and together, we can make our communities safer."

Xantus is scheduled to be launched by end of this month, However, the news is already creating curiosity among both the sides of the trade.

Panesar said, "Our recent product launch with Girish's Premier and Daniall's SPAR store has caught the attention of major wholesalers such as Booker and CJ Lang. Their representatives are watching closely."

Beyond convenience retail, the brand’s planned distribution network spans multiple channels including universities, colleges, schools, hospitality venues, and community organisations.

“Newcastle and Northumbria University have already placed order for 25,000 wristbands with substantial orders ahead of Fresher’s Week. This is just the start — our aim is to make these products accessible to anybody and everybody who can benefit from them.”

For retailers weighing whether to stock the kits, Panesar is unequivocal.

“I am confident that no retailer will remain undecided. Retailers are well aware that drink spiking is a serious and growing issue. By offering these kits to their customers, they are not only helping to protect the welfare of their community but also actively raising awareness and taking a stand against spiking.

"This is a powerful way to demonstrate genuine commitment to corporate social responsibility," Panesar said.

For Panesar, the upcoming launch is not just a commercial milestone, but a step in a wider campaign.

As he puts it, "This is about making our communities safer. Through strong retail partnerships, education, and open conversation, we can protect lives — and no retailer, customer, or institution should be left out of that mission.”
