Whole Foods Market has opened a new convenience-focused store in Angel, marking the first in a pipeline of additional London sites as the premium grocer accelerates its UK expansion.
Located on Upper Street (N1), the 3,600 sq ft site has been developed as a neighbourhood format, tailored to serve local residents and commuters with a mix of natural and organic products, fresh meals and everyday grocery essentials.
The Angel launch forms part of the retailer’s wider strategy to increase accessibility to its curated stores across the capital, with further openings expected as it builds out its London footprint.
Opening day saw strong customer interest, with queues forming from early morning ahead of doors opening at 9am. As part of launch celebrations, the first 200 shoppers received tote bags alongside complimentary items including freshly baked croissants, berries from Driscoll’s and coffee from Old Spike.
The store offers a focused range spanning fresh produce, bakery, prepared foods and grocery lines, all aligned with Whole Foods Market’s quality standards.
In-store features include a hot food counter, self-serve coffee and an Amazon kiosk, reflecting the retailer’s emphasis on convenience-led shopping missions.
Sampling activity from brands such as Mojo Maté is also taking place, highlighting exclusive products available through the retailer.
In line with its community engagement strategy, Whole Foods Market has partnered with The Felix Project to support local food redistribution. On opening day, team members donated groceries and fresh produce, which will be distributed to people in need across the area.
The store will operate from 8:00–22:00 Monday to Saturday and 08:00–21:00 on Sundays, with delivery via Deliveroo set to launch shortly after opening.
Last month, Whole Foods Market had announced the opening dates for six new U.K. store locations, all under the Daily Shop format, doubling the grocer’s footprint in the country.
These stores, all in London, mark the first locations under Whole Foods’ small-format concept to debut outside the U.S. and will open between April and June. All but one are former Amazon Fresh storefronts.
This international expansion comes at a time of significant change for Whole Foods’ parent company, Amazon, which ceased operations on its Amazon Fresh format at the start of this year.
Whole Foods’ growth in the U.K. has been largely dormant for more than a decade, aside from a 21,000-square-foot location the grocer opened in March 2025 on King’s Road in London.
