Retailers Gavan and Helen Wall, of The Wall Group (TWG), have invested £1 million in the refurbishment of their newly relaunched EUROSPAR Springfield Road store in Belfast, taking their portfolio to eight stores across North and West Belfast.
The Walls, who operate six SPAR and two EUROSPAR stores, acquired the Springfield Road supermarket from local retailer Brendan McKee in September 2025.
The 5,844 sq ft store has been refurbished with a £1m investment and has created 20 new jobs, taking the total number of local employees at the store to 65.
The new-look store features a Walls Foodhall Butchery counter and Food-to-Go deli, offering hot breakfast and lunch options, alongside a new Subway counter.
The store has also expanded its fresh and grocery ranges, including SPAR Bakery products, dairy and fresh produce, own-brand fresh food and products from local suppliers such as Pattons Bakery.
Other services include an Off Licence, Barista Bar coffee machine and internal and external ATMs.
The store is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the extended hours aimed at supporting local customers, including late-night workers at nearby Royal Victoria Hospital.
Gavan Wall, store owner, said the group was committed to supporting the communities in which it operates.
“Our new opening hours have already been so beneficial with a number of late-night workers in the area including those from The Royal Victoria Hospital which is within a stone’s throw to the amazing new store,” he said.
A second phase of investment is also planned, which will focus on the exterior of the store. This will include upgrades to parking, fuel pumps and store access, as well as relocating the pumps and installing new external imagery.
Despite having owned the store for less than a year, TWG has also begun community fundraising activities, including support for EUROSPAR NI’s charity partner, Cancer Fund for Children.
“We have a fantastic team here at the new EUROSPAR Springfield Road and we all look forward to deepening our connection with the local community and developing our engagement and fundraising activities, while providing outstanding customer service daily for our shoppers,” store manager Cameron Hughes said.
Richard Ash, sales director at Henderson Group, said the refurbishment had brought “new features, offers and products” to local shoppers.
He added that TWG was “a perfect example of passionate retailers with a network of community stores, continuing to make a positive impact while serving their community.”
