Tesco is extending its Aldi Price Match scheme to more than 2,000 of its Express convenience stores.
The supermarket giant noted that the investment marks the biggest expansion of the price match scheme since its launch in May 2020.
The move comes as the discounters open smaller outlets in local communities to attract shoppers from convenience stores that have long had a reputation for being less competitive on pricing.
Among the everyday items price-matched to Aldi at the Express format are Tesco Penne Pasta Quills 500g, two-pint bottles of semi-skimmed milk, and iceberg lettuce.
In total, more than 200 products will be available on Aldi Price Match in Tesco’s convenience stores, although the range stocked will vary by store, depending on the site’s size and location. The products included will have the Aldi Price Match logo displayed at the shelf edge.
“We know that household budgets are again under pressure, but we are committed to keeping the cost of the weekly food shop affordable for Tesco customers,” said Tesco UK CEO Ashwin Prasad.
“By extending our Aldi Price Match scheme to Express stores, we can now give customers the confidence that they can get great prices on a range of everyday products at Tesco, whether that’s in our large stores, online or in more than 2,000 of our local convenience stores.”
