Summary

  • Independent FMCG wholesaler S&W Wholesale to build a 16,730 sqm purpose-built HQ and distribution hub in Newry.
  • The new facility consolidates multiple sites, boosting efficiency for the Employee Ownership Trust business.
  • Construction supports jobs and subcontractors, reinforcing Newry’s role in Ireland’s grocery wholesale sector.

S&W Wholesale, one of Ireland’s largest independent wholesalers, has confirmed plans for a new purpose-built headquarters and distribution centre in Newry, in Northern Ireland, marking a significant investment in the future of the employee-owned business.

The 16,730 sqm development, located just off the A1 southbound and around three miles from the company’s current base at Carnbane Business Park, will include a large-scale storage and distribution warehouse alongside modern office facilities. The move will allow the wholesaler to consolidate operations currently spread across multiple sites.

Anthony McVeigh, CEO of S&W Wholesale, said the investment will secure the company’s long-term position as a leading independent FMCG wholesaler.

“The business has been curtailed in recent times through space constraints and operating across multiple sites,” he said.

“As an Employee Ownership Trust business, it is essential that we continue to invest in the business, our people and in the local community. This new facility will allow us to maximise our operational efficiency, while giving our valuable team a pleasant, fit for purpose working environment.”

Warrenpoint-based contractor Kelly Brothers has been appointed to deliver the project. Preliminary works, including road widening, have already been completed, with full construction due to begin in mid-August and finish by late 2026.

Ronan Kelly, Managing Director of Kelly Brothers, said the project would support local jobs and involve several subcontractors.

“We look forward to delivering these fit for the future facilities, which will help S&W to keep Newry on the map in the island wide grocery wholesaler sector,” Kelly added.
