Smiths News has secured a new long-term exclusive distribution contract with Telegraph Media Group (TMG), expected to generate an additional £40 million in annual revenue from October 2027.

The agreement, announced today, extends Smiths News’ appointment as TMG’s exclusive wholesale distributor through to September 2036 and expands its distribution territory to cover all of Britain.

TMG publishes The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. The expanded agreement will take effect from October 2027 and is on enhanced commercial terms for Smiths News.

The deal marks another step in Smiths News’ efforts to strengthen its position in the national newspaper and magazine distribution market. The company has also secured exclusive national wholesale distribution contracts with News UK, Associated Newspapers, magazine distributors Frontline and Seymour.

Together with contracts announced in June and July this year, Smiths News has now secured agreements covering approximately 61 per cent of the national newspapers and magazines market when the contracts commence.

“This represents another key step in expanding our network footprint to cover the whole of Great Britain, ensuring that consumers are able to access and consume news and magazine content for many years to come,” Jonathan Bunting, chief executive of Smiths News, said.

“More importantly, this reinforces our position as a trusted partner across our industry and further secures a sustainable future for print media distribution, reflecting our shared commitment to supporting the industry over the long term.”

The company said delivering all five contracts would require an expanded national distribution network, adding that it expects to provide further guidance on the financial implications of the contracts alongside its preliminary financial results on 4 November.
