Smiths News has strengthened its position in the UK print distribution market after securing new long-term contracts with magazine distributors Frontline and Seymour Distribution, extending its partnership with both companies until 2037 and significantly expanding its distribution footprint.

The agreements will see Smiths News become the exclusive national wholesale distributor for Frontline and Seymour titles across all of Britain from April 2030, alongside an extension of its existing appointments through to April 2037.

The company said the contracts are expected to generate an additional ÂŁ105 million in annual revenue from April 2030 across the expanded territories. Together, the Frontline and Seymour portfolios account for more than 60 per cent of the UK magazine market.

The latest awards follow the long-term distribution agreements Smiths News announced in June with News UK and Associated Newspapers, further consolidating its position in the newspaper and magazine wholesale sector.

With all four contracts secured, the company said it has established a substantial long-term volume base across the national newspapers and magazines market, providing greater visibility over future volumes and improved commercial certainty.

As previously outlined, delivering the new contracts will require the establishment of an expanded national distribution network. Smiths News said its guidance on implementation costs, transition expenses, the benefits of the network expansion, and dividend and financing arrangements remains unchanged from its announcement in June.

The board said it expects to provide further details on the financial impact of the contracts in due course, and no later than the publication of its preliminary results on 4 November.

Jonathan Bunting, chief executive of Smiths News, said the agreements reinforced the company's long-standing relationships with publishers and distributors.

“We are delighted to announce our new contracts with both Frontline and Seymour, further reinforcing our long-term partnership with publishers and distributors, which ultimately maintains great service for millions of consumers across the UK,” he said.

“The new contracts continue to reinforce the importance of the printed magazine market which our business model has successfully evolved to support, building a sustainable, efficient and resilient route to market for the magazine category, while maintaining service continuity for publishers and retailers.”
