Roger Burnley joins M&S board

Marks and Spencer Group said Roger Burnley will join the board as a non-executive director, effective from 1 December 2025.

Burnley is the former CEO and COO of Asda and, prior to that, retail & operations director at Sainsbury’s. He is currently a non-executive director at Pets at Home Group plc.

“Roger brings extensive experience in the food retail industry and supply chain transformation which will be invaluable as we enter the next phase of our plan to reshape M&S for growth,” M&S chairman Archie Norman commented.

“He is a strong addition to the team and I am delighted to welcome him to the board.”

Burnley commented: “M&S is a much-loved brand which I have always admired as setting the standard in UK retail, and it is a privilege to be joining such an engaged board.

“Much progress has been made through the Reshaping for Growth strategy, but there remains so much opportunity, and I am looking forward to supporting the leadership team to capitalise on that in the years ahead.”

Burnley left Asda in August 2021 after four years as CEO and was appointed CBE in the 2022 New Year Honours list for services to the food supply chain.

The clothes-to-food retailer has been a victim of a recent cyberattack that disrupted its online service, with an estimated £300 million impact on its annual group operating profit.
