Andy was born in London just in time to see England win the World Cup, and much later began his career in academia, gaining a PhD in American Literature and lecturing at several universities, including Maryland and Gothenburg in Sweden, and pursuing a sideline in sheep-farming before moving back to London and becoming a literary agent and TV documentary-maker (working for various broadcasters and making series such as the BBC’s Monsoon Railway, set in Bengal). He has written several biographies, including the Second World War story American Pimpernel, and became the official biographer of India’s Prime Minister (then Chief Minister of Gujarat) publishing Narendra Modi, a Political Biography (Harper Collins). Andy joined Asian Media Group in 2018, his first “proper” job, and has been there ever since, believing that, while trade journalism might not save the world, it might just save journalism.

One of the world's largest confectionery companies, Perfetti Van Melle, has just hit a major trading milestone: achieving £100million in UK sales.

The family business is also celebrating its status as the current fastest growing manufacturer of mints, gum, candy, and sugar free confectionery brand . Perfetti Van Melle is known for its world-famous brands Mentos, Fruittella, Smint and Chupa Chups. It is also the largest supplier of sugar-free sweets in the UK, with its sugar-free range continuously growing +22 per cent YoY, with a product portfolio perfectly positioned to help retailers respond to the incoming HFSS legislation.

Yet Perfetti Van Melle is not resting on its laurels. The company has just taken a significant step in its sustainability journey by replacing the plastic sticks in Chupa Chups with paper sticks, a move which will eliminate around 5k metric tons of plastic per annum. In other brand news, iconic fruit caramel Fruittella turns 90 this year, a landmark that the business are celebrating with a game-changing piece of interactive audio advertising.
