Award winning Nisa Local Wee Mill store in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, got badly damaged in a fire last night, prompting a response from over 100 firefighters.
Just after 6pm on Thursday (May 7), fire broke out in the Nisa store. At its height, more than 100 firefighters were sent to the scene, including a Command Unit and high-reach appliances.
The fire led to several roads being closed as emergency services dealt with the incident. Baronald Street, along with Dalmarnock Road and Farmeloan Road remain closed as of 9:30am.
Store owner Saj Javed of Scotland-based Pro Gro Group stated in social media, "We are absolutely devastated to lose one of our award winning Stores, Nisa Local Wee Mill, which caught fire yesterday evening.
"Thankfully no staff, or customers were injured and everyone from the building above were evacuated safely. We would like to thank everyone for there support including, emergency services, local customers and our great team of staff at the store!"
Images on social media showed smoke billowing from the shop, which is located beneath flats.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson said this morning: "Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire on Baronald Street in Rutherglen.
“We were alerted at 6.19pm on Thursday, 7 May, to reports of a building fire.
"At its height, Operations Control mobilised 22 fire appliances and additional resources to the scene of a fire affecting the basement of a commercial property within a four storey tenement building."
Fire crews in Rutherglen, Glasgow worked tirelessly through the night to bring the serious shop fire under control.
