Andy was born in London just in time to see England win the World Cup, and much later began his career in academia, gaining a PhD in American Literature and lecturing at several universities, including Maryland and Gothenburg in Sweden, and pursuing a sideline in sheep-farming before moving back to London and becoming a literary agent and TV documentary-maker (working for various broadcasters and making series such as the BBC’s Monsoon Railway, set in Bengal). He has written several biographies, including the Second World War story American Pimpernel, and became the official biographer of India’s Prime Minister (then Chief Minister of Gujarat) publishing Narendra Modi, a Political Biography (Harper Collins). Andy joined Asian Media Group in 2018, his first “proper” job, and has been there ever since, believing that, while trade journalism might not save the world, it might just save journalism.

NewstrAid is delighted to announce the return of its popular Nationwide Scavenger Hunt, an interactive, team-based event taking place across towns and urban centres throughout the United Kingdom. Designed to foster team cohesion and industry engagement, the initiative also plays a vital role in raising funds to support individuals within the newspaper and magazine trade who are experiencing hardship.

“We are really proud to be running this popular event for a second year," said Neil Jagger, Chief Executive of NewstrAid. "It is more than just a game, it’s a chance for people across the sector to come together, strengthen team bonds, and help us raise funds for the charity. Whether you’re based in Manchester, Milton Keynes, or Motherwell, if you're in a town, you can take part!”

Involving more than 100 participants and 20 teams across the country in 2024, this year’s Scavenger Hunt will take place on Thursday 11 September and invites participation from teams representing all areas of the newstrade, including publishers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers. Each team will take part in a series of structured, app-based challenges set within their local urban area, encouraging both collaboration and creativity in a time-limited format.

Neil Jagger added, “The Scavenger Hunt offers a unique opportunity for people from the industry to get away from their desks and enjoy a bit of competitive fun whilst also directly supporting those in our trade who are facing difficult circumstances right now.”

Scavenger Hunt, Thurs 11Sept 4.30pm – 6.30pm Event Format and Participation Requirements

  • Each team is required to register in advance (£20pp or £100 for teams of six) and download the Wildgoose ‘Mobile Adventures’ app
  • On the day of the event, game instructions will be issued at a 15-minute live Zoom briefing
  • Participants will then complete as many challenges as possible within the timeframe
  • The event will conclude with a virtual results session via Zoom, sharing highlights from the day.
