Guests at this year’s Newspaper & Magazine Awards (NMAs) donated more than £1,500 in support of NewstrAid, the longstanding industry charity dedicated to helping those in newspaper and magazine sales and distribution.

The annual industry event organised by the Association of Circulation Executives (ACE) was hosted at the prestigious Marriott Grosvenor Square on Tuesday 13th May and saw leading figures from across the sector come together for an evening of recognition and celebration. For the first time this year, attendees where also invited to make a contribution to NewstrAid, resulting in the fundraising total.

"This was the first time we encouraged attendees at the NMAs to make a donation to the charity and we were bowled over by the generosity of those who attended," said Neil Jagger, CEO for NewstrAid. "Every pound raised will go directly towards supporting people from our industry who are facing difficult times."

Founded over 185 years ago, NewstrAid continues to be a lifeline for hundreds of individuals each year, offering financial assistance, emotional support, and practical guidance. In 2024 alone, the charity helped more than 1,500 people from the industry, highlighting its critical role within the newstrade.

James Beardow, Chair of ACE, said: “We are always keen to support NewstrAid in any way we can at ACE and already give all the proceeds from our Christmas Lunch Raffle to the charity. We were more than happy to include donation envelopes on the tables at this year’s NMAs and are delighted with the amount raised and the difference it will make.”
