Nearby is celebrating its fifth anniversary this April, marking a period of rapid growth that has seen the symbol group expand to more than 165 stores across the island of Ireland.

Launched in 2021, the brand has positioned itself around a community-first approach to convenience retail, with its latest anniversary campaign, ‘Here for the Moments That Matter’, designed to highlight the everyday role independent retailers play in customers’ lives.

The campaign centres on the small but significant interactions that define local convenience shopping, from quick top-up purchases to regular customer conversations, reinforcing the brand’s tagline, ‘Never too far from home’.

Over the past five years, Nearby stores have evolved into community hubs, offering more than just retail by providing a consistent and familiar presence for local shoppers. The group said this focus on connection and personal service continues to differentiate independent retailers from larger competitors.

Central to the brand’s growth has been its network of independent store owners, whose commitment and local knowledge have helped build strong customer relationships. As part of the anniversary activity, Nearby is placing a spotlight on retailers who go beyond day-to-day operations to support their communities.

The symbol group operates a retailer-first model, offering partners flexibility without membership fees, marketing costs or long-term contracts. This approach allows store owners to retain independence while benefiting from a recognised brand and shared infrastructure.

Nearby is backed by parent company S&W Wholesale, which provides access to more than 9,000 product lines, 17 promotional cycles annually, a 24/7 ordering system and next-day delivery. Ongoing investment in infrastructure, including a new distribution hub in Newry, is expected to further strengthen supply capabilities and support future expansion.
