Morrisons has confirmed that supermarket and manufacturing workers covered by its national agreement with USDAW have overwhelmingly backed a new pay deal that will take the retailer’s customer assistant hourly rate to £13.11 by October.

The retailer said 91.87 per cent of colleagues voted in favour of the agreement in the ballot, which closed on 6 May.

The pay increase will be rolled out in three stages during 2026. From 30 March, the established hourly rate for customer assistants increased from £12.71 to £12.81, while all other hourly-paid roles covered by the agreement received a 10p rise.

A second increase will take effect from 20 July, lifting the customer assistant rate to £13 an hour, alongside a further 19p rise for other eligible roles.

From 26 October, the customer assistant rate will rise again to £13.11, with all other established hourly rates increasing by an additional 11p.

Morrisons said eligible hourly-paid colleagues will also receive a one-off payment ranging from £25 to £175, depending on contractual hours.

The supermarket had already raised customer assistant pay from £12.21 to £12.71 in March this year following changes to the National Living Wage.

In a statement following the ballot, USDAW said the agreement followed a “long and difficult negotiation process” after union members rejected an earlier “zero offer” proposal from the retailer.

The union said negotiations resumed with Morrisons on 25 March and resulted in a revised offer that the national committee was able to “fully recommend for acceptance” covering both 2025 and 2026.

USDAW added that the outcome demonstrated “the power of solidarity and the benefit of collective bargaining”, claiming the improved deal would not have been achieved without pressure from union members challenging the company’s initial decision not to increase pay above the National Living Wage.

The union also thanked workplace representatives and members for supporting the negotiations and taking part in the ballot process.

Jodie Keating, group people director at Morrisons, said: “We’re pleased that we can now implement the pay proposal and increase pay for our colleagues to reward them for the contribution they make to our business.

“I would like to thank all our colleagues for everything they continue to do for Morrisons.”
