Morrisons has partnered with Instaleap to strengthen its e-commerce operation, using the technology provider’s platform to manage orders from multiple rapid-delivery marketplaces and help store colleagues fulfil them more efficiently.
The partnership will see Morrisons manage orders from Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo through a single platform, while Instaleap’s in-store picking app will give colleagues tools to improve the speed and accuracy of picking and fulfilment.
The move comes as Morrisons continues to expand its use of technology across its online and in-store operations. In July, the retailer became the first UK supermarket to trial Instacart’s AI-powered Caper smart trolleys, launching the trial at its Preston supermarket. The trial was also Instacart’s first UK retail partnership for its Caper smart trolley technology, which is already deployed across more than 100 cities in the US and Australia.
Instaleap is now part of Instacart, following its acquisition by the US grocery technology company. Its platform is designed specifically for grocery retailers, covering e-commerce fulfilment and last-mile operations.
Charlotte Exell, group online director at Morrisons, said the retailer was seeing more customers choosing to shop through its “immediacy partners”.
“More of our customers are choosing to shop from us via one of our immediacy partners and they expect an efficient, dependable service every time,” she said. “Working with Instaleap powers our online operations behind the scenes, helping us deliver fresh groceries directly to our customers’ doors quickly and reliably.”
Antonio Nunes, head of Instaleap at Instacart, said grocery customers increasingly expected shopping to be “as convenient and flexible as possible”, whether buying in-store or online.
“Instaleap’s grocery-specific technology helps retailers simplify complex fulfillment operations and better meet the evolving needs of their customers,” he said.
Instaleap said it now operates in nearly 30 countries, supporting almost 100 grocery retailers and marketplaces, including SPAR, Carrefour Belgium, Cencosud, Continente, Jerónimo Martins and Lulu.
The Morrisons partnership forms part of Instacart’s wider push to expand its enterprise technology platform internationally, spanning e-commerce, fulfilment, in-store technology, retail media and AI solutions.
