Chirp Protect has announced strong results from an installation at a Motor Fuel Group forecourt in East London, where monthly shoplifting losses reportedly fell from £3,000 - £4,000 per month to just a fewhundred pounds after deploying the Chirp Protect security system.
MFG - the UK’s largest independent forecourt operator with more than 1,000 sites nationwide - installed theplug-and-play system at its Loxford forecourt in Ilford following persistent theft issues that were impactingprofitability, staff morale and day-to-day operations.
Unlike traditional Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems that identify theft attempts at the exit, ChirpProtect works directly at product level. The system uses alarming security tags that trigger immediately ifsomeone attempts to tamper with or remove them, creating an instant deterrent before products leave thestore.
The system can also integrate with existing RF and AM EAS infrastructure, allowing retailers to enhanceprotection without replacing current security investments.
Karim, Site Manager at MFG Loxford, said, “Before, we were losing around £3,000 to £4,000 every month through theft. Since installing Chirp Protect, thathas reduced to around £200 to £400 maximum. It’s been a huge improvement for us.
"People now see the securitysystem and often stop immediately. The tags alarm if someone tries to remove them, so there’s no need for staffto confront individuals directly.
"It has made the store safer for both staff and customers.”
In addition to reducing shrinkage, the system has had a significant impact on staff welfare and operationalconfidence.
Retail staff working in high-theft environments often face difficult confrontations and uncertainty aroundsuspected theft incidents. By creating a clear audible alert the moment tampering occurs, Chirp Protecthelps remove ambiguity while reducing the need for direct intervention.
For forecourt operators, where stores are frequently understaffed and high-value convenience products areheavily targeted, this shift towards proactive product-level protection is becoming increasingly important.
Chirp Protect’s Edge system is a compact exit protection solution that alarms when tagged items are takentoo close to protected exits or restricted areas.
The plug-and-play system is designed to be quick to install, simple for staff to operate and ideal for stores where traditional gate-based security systems are impracticalor insufficient.
With retail theft continuing to rise across the UK convenience sector, forecourt operators are increasinglylooking for solutions that not only reduce losses but also improve staff safety and operational efficiency.
