A well-positioned convenience store located in Weymouth, Dorset, has been sold to a new owner Aruchchanan Thavamenan.

The modern store is fully equipped, selling a wide range of groceries and everyday essentials as well as featuring multiple storage areas practical functionality for stock management. The property also includes a two-bedroom owner’s apartment upstairs.

Situated on Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth, the property enjoys excellent exposure and benefits from a steady stream of local trade in a busy residential area. With approximately 3,660 people passing by every day, and even higher numbers during peak periods, Macey’s position is an ideal spot for consistent footfall.

Former owners, Geoff and Lourdes Ellis, had owned and operated the store for 40 years and are now looking forward to enjoying retirement.

Geoff says, “I would like to thank all my customers for their loyalty over the years. Lourdes and I have thoroughly enjoyed running the store over the years and have made many friends and acquaintances along the way, however the time has come for us to retire and pass the baton on to a new owner.

“We are very happy to have sold the property and business to Aru, who we feel has the right ideas to be able to move the business forward for many years to come, along with providing the consistency we know our customer will enjoy.’

Following a sales process led by Matthew McFarlane at Christie & Co, Macey’s has been sold to Aruchchanan Thavamenan, who has worked in his family’s convenience stores for many years is now the proud owner of his first personally owned store.

He adds, “I am very much looking forward to my new venture here in Weymouth, having viewed a number of businesses across the Southwest, when Matt introduced Macey’s to me, I knew this was the right one.

“The shop is in a great location, with accommodation above and provided the perfect balance between current customer base and products with scope to add further enhancement to meet the customers’ needs and take the store to the next level. Geoff is a lovely guy, and I would like to thank him for assistance and patience through the sale process.”

Matthew McFarlane, Senior Business Agent - Retail & Leisure at Christie & Co, comments, “It was a pleasure to have been instructed to look after the sale of Macey’s Convenience Store. From having first met Geoff a few years ago, I was grateful that they put their trust in Christie & Co and I to put their long-term home and business to the market.

“It is well positioned store with loads of potential that was ultimately noticed by the overall market as overall viewing numbers and offers confirmed. I enjoyed working with both Geoff and Aru to bring about the completion of sale and very much wish them both all the very best for the future.”

Macey’s was sold at an undisclosed sum, off a freehold asking price of £520,000.
