Local community fetes Worcestershire retailer

A Worcestershire retailer has been recognised by local community as he bagged a National Reliability Award, sponsored by Absolute Radio and Sky.

Alan Kasch of the Costcutter store in Fernhill Heath was nominated for the award by his local community for his efforts to ensure the supply of groceries during the pandemic.

Kasch, who has owned and run the store for the past 39 years, was working up to 100 hours per week at the height of the pandemic to bring groceries and supplies to the village. He has worked in the store – which is also the village post office – all his life.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have been recognized by our local community in this way, but it’s my staff who deserve the credit,” Kasch said. “While I’m out delivering, they are manning the post office, serving on the tills and cooking in the bakery. It is truly a team effort.”

He also worked with his local parish council throughout the crisis and personally packed and delivered food to his elderly and vulnerable customers.

“Some of our shoppers have supported us for 39 years, so it was a pleasure to be able to help them when they needed it most.”
