Kitwave Wholesale Group has acquired a Fife-based wholesale business Fife Creamery after almost 70 years of family ownership for an undisclosed sum.
The move seeks to support Kitwave’s larger growth ambitions across the UK as the Kirkcaldy-based Fife Creamery is now set to become a “cornerstone” of the group’s operations in Scotland.
The move comes as the Simpson family prepares to exit the business, which was founded in 1957 and has grown into one of Scotland’s largest food and drink wholesalers, supplying customers across the retail, hospitality and foodservice sectors.
Kitwave Wholesale Group, which has a network of 37 depots, said there would be no changes to Fife Creamery’s depot, operations, sales or head office teams, while the existing leadership structure remains “firmly in place” with Steve Appolinari remaining as managing director.
The business will continue to trade under the Fife Creamery brand.
Chairman Graeme Simpson, grandson of founder John, said the deal supports the company’s long-term growth ambitions while retaining the values, people and service that have underpinned its success.
He said his priority has been to ensure the company’s future is secure in the safest possible hands.
Ben Maxted, chief executive at Kitwave Wholesale Group, which was founded in 1987, following the acquisition of a single-site confectionery wholesale business based in North Shields, said: “Fife Creamery has established itself as one of Scotland’s most respected food wholesalers, with a strong market position, an experienced leadership team and a customer-focused approach that aligns closely with our own values.
“This acquisition strengthens our presence in Scotland and represents an important step in our long-term growth strategy. We look forward to working closely with the team in Kirkcaldy and investing in the business as it continues to build on its success.”
Graeme Simpson, chairman of Fife Creamery, said: “Our objectives have always been to protect the established Fife Creamery name, remain a vital partner for Scottish retail and hospitality, secure the right investment for our Kirkcaldy infrastructure, and ensure sustainable long-term growth. I am extremely pleased to say that all these goals have been achieved.
