Gordon & MacPhail has appointed Jo Coomber as its new global marketing director as the family-owned whisky specialist looks to accelerate brand development and international growth.

Coomber brings more than 25 years of UK and international marketing experience spanning luxury, consumer brands and the creative industries. She joins the Elgin-based business with board-level experience in marketing and leadership, as well as expertise in brand strategy, development and execution.

In recent years, Coomber has worked as a consultant advising businesses including Suntory Global Spirits and Scottish design house Timorous Beasties on brand development and marketing strategy. She is also a Fellow of the Marketing Society.

Coomber will support Gordon & MacPhail’s growth plans across established and international markets, with a focus on maximising the potential of its brand portfolio, including Gordon & MacPhail, Benromach Distillery and The Cairn.

Commenting on her appointment, Coomber said Gordon & MacPhail had “a rich heritage, exceptional whiskies and an ambitious brand-led vision for the future”.

“I look forward to working with the team and partners to deliver the next phase of our brand growth ambitions – both at home and internationally,” she added.

Mark Geary, chief executive of Gordon & MacPhail, said Coomber would bring “a wealth of experience” to the company’s executive team as it delivers its growth plan.

“Her proven track record in brand development and insight-driven marketing makes Jo the perfect fit as we continue to invest in our brands in key markets around the world,” he said.

Established in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail has evolved from a local grocer into a global Scotch whisky specialist.
