Indri launches Agneya – a lightly-peated Indian single malt whisky

Mangrove Global has expanded its world whisky portfolio with the arrival of Agneya, the latest expression from Indian single malt producer, Indri.

Agneya is crafted from 100% six-row malted barley sourced from Rajasthan and lightly peated using Scottish Highland peat that is malted in India. Double distilled in copper pot stills and matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, the whisky sits at 46% ABV and delivers notes of mango, banana, melon and toffee wrapped in a gentle dried peat smoke.

The name is rooted in Sanskrit - Agneya means belonging to fire and is also the daughter of Agni, the Hindu god of fire. The expression embodies the depth, heat and character associated with fire and wood and will sit just above Trini on RRP.

Agneya joins Indri’s existing UK range - Trini, Dru and the limited Diwali. Unlike Diwali, which is released annually in small allocations, Agneya will be the first ongoing peated expression available year-round for the UK market.

“World whisky is at its best when provenance and process shape something genuinely original – and Agneya does exactly that,” said Nick Gillett, MD of Mangrove Global. “The combination of Highland peat and Indian six-row barley delivers a style of peat you simply won’t find elsewhere. With Diwali always in short supply, Agneya gives our customers a peated expression they can list, hand-sell and come back to - it adds real breadth to the Indri range and to our wider world whisky portfolio.”

Agneya is now available through Mangrove’s distribution network.
