A new Go Local Extra store has opened in Tredegar, South Wales, as the fascia group continues to expand across key growth locations.
The new store, located at 21 to 22 Castle Street, Tredegar, opened earlier this month following the transformation of a former Barclays Bank building into a modern convenience store. Spanning 1,250 sq ft, the site is operated by retailer Kevin Berzh with investment support from business partner Punithagaran Poopalarethnam.
The pair acquired the property in July 2025 and undertook an extensive refurbishment programme, overcoming structural challenges and securing planning consent to convert the historic building into a retail space.
Work completed at the end of January 2026, bringing the total investment in the project to £240,000.
Kevin and Punith identified South Wales as a strong location for growth and began exploring symbol group options before choosing Parfetts. The pair were impressed by the strength of the Go Local Extra proposition and the support offered by the Parfetts team, which set it apart from competitors.
Experienced retailer Kevin Berzh, said: “We looked at several symbol groups when planning this store, but Parfetts stood out straight away. The communication has been excellent from day one, and the support we have received throughout the project has made a real difference.
"The range is strong, the pricing is competitive with great promotions, and we feel confident we have the right partner to grow this business.
“This store has been a major investment for us, and we wanted to create something the community could be proud of. We have spent time getting to know local residents and neighbouring businesses and have made sure the store reflects the town.
"Bilingual signage is in place, and we are stocking a number of Welsh products alongside the core range so the offer feels relevant to local shoppers.”
The store has also introduced itself to the community through local engagement ahead of opening, working closely with neighbouring traders and residents. Tredegar town mayor Alyson Tippings formally opened the store, cutting the ribbon at the launch event and offering her ongoing support to the retailers.
Guy Swindell, joint managing director at Parfetts, said: “It is fantastic to see Kevin and Punith open their new Go Local Extra store in Tredegar. They have invested significantly in the site and demonstrated a strong commitment to creating a store that serves its community well.
“The continued expansion of Go Local Extra reflects the confidence independent retailers have in our model and the strength of our offer. We are seeing growing demand for the fascia across the UK as more retailers look for a partner that can deliver competitive pricing, a strong range and hands-on support. We are delighted to be working with Kevin and Punith and look forward to supporting their growth in South Wales.”
The Tredegar opening further strengthens Parfetts’ presence in Wales as the wholesaler continues to expand the Go Local and Go Local Extra estate, supporting independent retailers with a value-led proposition, competitive margins and dedicated development support.
