World of Sweets has on Thursday (24 September) recalled two Alyan Dubai-style chocolate products after Salmonella was found in the products, according to a Food Standards Agency (FSA) alert.
The recall applies specifically to products sold in England and Northern Ireland and covers all best-before dates of the following:
- Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles – 120g, product code 319456
- Alyan Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate – 100g, product code 318591
Retailers selling the affected products are being advised to remove them from sale and follow the recall instructions.
World of Sweets said point-of-sale notices will be displayed in retail stores selling the products, explaining the reason for the recall and what customers should do if they have purchased them.
The FSA said the presence of Salmonella poses a food safety risk. Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
Consumers who have bought either of the affected products should not eat them and should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
The FSA also advised anyone experiencing symptoms to stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been free of symptoms for at least 48 hours, to help prevent the infection from spreading.
Update – September 25: The FSA has updated the recall to cover Wales and Scotland, in addition to England and Northern Ireland.
