Country Choice, the UK’s leading supplier of in-store bakery and retail foodservice products, has launched a new ambient sausage roll concept under its Bake & Bite brand, designed to help convenience retailers tap into one of the most popular food-to-go categories.


The pork sausage rolls, encased in golden puff pastry, have been specially developed to stay fresh and appetising for up to 12 hours at room temperature. This extended shelf life offers retailers significantly more flexibility than hot food-to-go lines, which typically require holding equipment and have a maximum display time of around four hours.

The concept is simple to operate: stores bake the sausage rolls as usual, allow them to cool, and then place them in a film-fronted bag. From there, they can be merchandised in free Bake & Bite-branded countertop or freestanding units supplied by Country Choice free of charge. Positioned at till points or grab-and-go areas, the compact displays are designed to capture impulse purchases and encourage basket spend.

By removing the need for hot-holding cabinets and regular replenishment, the concept reduces labour, energy, and equipment costs, while opening up food-to-go opportunities for retailers who lack space or resources for traditional hot food.

With an RRP of 4 for £3 and no VAT payable on ambient products, the proposition is pitched as a strong profit driver. Country Choice calculates that even modest sales – eight packs per day, five days a week – could generate up to £317 in monthly cash profit for a store.
