Certas Energy, which owns the Gulf UK and Pace brands, has announced the launch of its electric vehicle charging offer, Evolo Rapid Charge, marking the company’s move into the fast-growing EV infrastructure space.
The UK’s largest independent fuel distributor is currently constructing its first owned-and-operated Evolo charging hub at the Gulf service station in Ebbw Vale, Wales. The site, located near the busy A4046 and within close proximity to the Brecon Beacons National Park, is expected to serve a steady flow of drivers, with the forecourt already attracting hundreds of weekly visitors.
Certas Energy said Evolo is designed to deliver a “fast, reliable and price-competitive” charging experience for electric vehicle users, as demand for convenient ‘on-the-go’ charging continues to rise.
The rollout comes against a backdrop of accelerating EV adoption, with electric cars accounting for 23.4 per cent of new UK registrations in 2025, according to Zapmap data. With growth expected to continue into 2026, the need for accessible rapid charging infrastructure is increasing across the forecourt network.
Evolo chargers feature HD touchscreens with animated graphics to guide users through the charging process, alongside multiple payment options including card and a dedicated mobile app.
Gerry Welsh, head of e-mobility at Certas Energy, said the company had focused on ease of use when developing the offer.
“We know first-hand how frustrating charging at service stations can be and were resolute that our EV offer needed to be simple to use with easy, straightforward payment options,” he said. “We spent time researching and listening to EV drivers and businesses to find out what they want and need when it comes to charging their vehicles – and we believe Evolo is a first-class product designed to meet those needs.”
