Asian Trader launches body to support retailers

Asian Trader has launched an exclusive new platform, a curated and high-impact network of leading convenience retailers to drive collaboration, empowerment and growth.

Officially named as "The Convenience Hub", the initiative is positioned as a closed, working group of leading independent convenience retailers focused on practical collaboration, peer-to-peer learning, guidance and support.

The group already has more than 75 leading convenience retailers from across the country on board.

The Convenience Hub by Asian Trader aims to create a structured environment where retailers can share experiences, discuss operational challenges, seek expert guidance, access insight relevant to day-to-day trading and raise a collective voice as and when required.

What sets this body apart in the sector is its balanced and deliberate composition, ensuring equal and fair representation of retailers across different geographies, demographics, symbol groups, as well as a diverse mix of store formats and estate sizes.

Each invited retailer in this closed group has something unique to offer to others – be it trading tips, supplier relations, community engagements, delivery, store security, business expansion or social media usage.

Alongside commercial priorities, the club will also place a sustained focus on non-business challenges, including gender parity, work-life balance, mental health and even succession planning, addressed through ongoing internal dialogue as well as sessions led by subject-matter experts.

The first phase of activity will centre on a programme of in-person events and discussions scheduled throughout the year. The inaugural roundtable in-person meeting is set to take place shortly in London, bringing together members to examine key issues affecting the convenience channel, identify areas for collective action and map the way forward.

The publication added that the platform will remain curated as it grows, with an emphasis on maintaining a high level of engagement, relevant discussions and a strong vocal voice in terms of realities of independent retail.

The Convenience Hub marks a shift in Asian Trader’s role within the sector, extending beyond reporting to facilitating industry dialogue at a time when many retailers are seeking more practical support and guidance.

The launch comes at a time when independent retailers are facing sustained pressure from rising employment costs, ongoing regulatory changes and continued margin squeeze, alongside growing concerns around retail crime.

At the same time, shifts in shopper behaviour and the expansion of categories such as food to go and local services are creating new opportunities for growth.

Founded on the principle of "connect, share and grow", The Convenience Hub will remain committed to facilitate more direct and consistent dialogue within the sector.

Further details on upcoming events and participation are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
