‘Brave’ shop staff restrain man who tried to steal money

Staff at a shop in Warsop, Nottinghamshire foiled an attempted robbery and restrained the offender until police arrived.

Brad-Lee Barber, 24, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted burglary following the incident.

At around 5 pm 3 May, he allegedly launched over the counter to try to steal cash from the register. However the staff intervened and stopped him from escaping.

“This was an incredibly brave act for those who challenged the man and then restrained him until police arrived,” Police Sergeant Carl Holland of Nottinghamshire Police said. “Thankfully no one was injured and nothing was stolen.”

Barber appeared at Nottinghamshire Magistrates' Court on 5 May, and has been bailed with conditions.

"We are aware that offences like this can cause considerable alarm in the local community. I hope that local businesses are reassured by the speed of our response,” Holland added.
