Mandeep Singh of Singh’s Premier stores in Sheffield has won Best Home Delivery Retailer of the Year at the Asian Trader Awards 2026, recognising a family business that has evolved from a neighbourhood shop into a broader convenience operation. The awards were held in London on Wednesday (Nov 4).
The Singh family’s retail journey began in 1988, when Mandeep's parents took on a store on Teynham Road, Sheffield. The business started with limited resources and a tired store, but investment in stock and a focus on customer service quickly helped lift sales.
Home delivery has become an important extension of that customer-first approach, taking the convenience offer beyond the store and helping customers access groceries and everyday essentials. Mandeep, along with his brothers, has developed own rapid delivery app called Singh's Drop, which enable them quick service with no margin sharing with the third party service provider.
Weekly delivery now forms a major chunk of the business with seasonal events and holidays seeing exceptional sales numbers.
The award highlights how an established independent retailer can use delivery to deepen customer relationships and extend the reach of a local store.
Asian Trader Awards 2026, held at Westminster Park Plaza Hotel in London on Wednesday (Nov 4), recognised the achievements of independent retailers and businesses from across the country, shining a spotlight on the innovation, enterprise, resilience and community spirit that continue to define the sector.
The evening was hosted by actor Nitin Chandra Ganatra. Minister for Artificial Intelligence The Rt Hon Kanishka Narayan MP graced the occasion as the chief guest.
