Wing Yip has recently unveiled Wing Yip DIDI, a new urban convenience store, marking a significant shift for the Asian retail and wholesale operator, which has traditionally traded through large out-of-town superstores.
The recently opened store is located in a former Poundland unit on a high-street site. The store delivers a compact but wide-ranging offer spanning fresh, frozen and ambient categories.
Alongside core grocery, the format places strong emphasis on food-for-now, with in-store bakery, hot food, hot drinks and a self-service ramen bar designed to capture immediate consumption missions.
The store features a modern, premium look and feel, supported by digital screens and electronic shelf labels (ESLs), underlining a tech-enabled approach to convenience retailing.
According to early observations, the Wing Yip DIDI format aligns closely with emerging global retail trends around new convenience and the growing consumer appetite for international and Asian flavours.
Sharing the store's picture, IGD retail expert Bryan Roberts commented on social media, "The decor is very smart and the store also includes digital aspects such as screens and ESLs.
"More detailed analysis from IGD on the way in the new year, bit this format ticks quite a few boxes in terms of our 2026 global trends such as 'new convenience' and global flavours."
