Muslim Aid, in partnership with Euro Foods, will distribute iftars for the needy at East London Mosque as part of the charity’s Feed The Fasting campaign.

Feed The Fasting takes place every Ramadan by Muslim Aid the second oldest Muslim charity in the UK which feeds people in poverty across the world to cover their meals throughout the holy Muslim month.

As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, observers of Ramadan across the London borough of Tower Hamlets which has the worst poverty rates in the UK and where 56 per cent of children live in poverty struggle to afford their iftar and suhoor every 10 days during Ramadan.

To deal with the crisis at home, Muslim Aid has extended the programme to the UK as poverty rates soar.

The distribution will be attended by local high-profile figures such as Dilowar Khan, the Director of East London Mosque, Lutfur Rahman the Mayor of Tower Hamlets and Shelim Hussain MBE, Managing Director of Euro Foods.

“The cost of living crisis and soaring food prices means many families here in the UK struggle to eat. Food poverty is a real challenge in our country, and we need to do something about it”, says Abul Kalam, Head of Fundraising and Marketing Campaigns at Muslim Aid.

“This is the launch event of our UK food distribution, and we intend to extend this project to reach other areas of the UK. By working collaboratively, our vision is no one goes hungry”, he added.

Last year, Muslim Aid’s Feed The Fasting campaign delivered over 2.2 million meals across the world in 12 countries.

“East London Mosque is delighted to partner up with Muslim Aid to deliver Ramadan food packs to struggling families who are having to deal with the cost of living crisis”, said Sufia Alam, Head of Programmes and Maryam centre, East London Mosque.

“You never know who needs a helping hand. This effort is Euro Foods Group giving back to the community as we wouldn’t be where we are without them”, says Ibal Hussain of Euro Foods.

The first collection will take place on Tuesday 21 March at East London Mosque.
