Volumatic lends their support to the Co-op to help raise money for Barnardo’s

Cash handling experts Volumatic have continued their charitable efforts once again this year by helping one of their key customers, the Co-op Food Group, raise money for one of the UK’s leading children’s charities.

Employees from across the Co-op group decided to take on a series of challenges throughout 2023 to raise money for their chosen charity, Barnardo’s, which would also benefit the local communities that their Co-op stores serve – and Volumatic were only too happy to make a significant contribution to this fantastic cause.

The challenges taken on by the Co-op teams included two Tough Mudder 5K runs in Manchester and Gloucester, which took place in July and August, alongside a series of smaller events spread across 2023, including the Co-op Head Office Coin Challenge!

Billed as ‘not your average 5K run’, the Tough Mudder runs challenged the Co-op teams involved to get to grips with no less than 13 world-class obstacles, with names including ‘Everest’, ‘Mudderhorn’ and ‘Kiss of Mud’, suggesting the crew of volunteers were not only going to face some of their fears but also going to get very muddy along the way!

However, Team Co-op completed all their challenges, having lots of fun (and a few minor injuries along the way), raising over £1.2 million so far, which will go towards helping vulnerable children and young people across the UK.

Jay Brereton, Retail Operations Change Delivery & Capacity Lead at the Co-op, said, “After selecting Barnardo’s as our charity partner this year, we reached out to partners that we have worked with for a long time and who know us and our commitment to our local communities well. We were delighted that Volumatic were in a position to make a sizeable donation and sponsor our events and we’re very grateful to them and all our other partners who helped us surpass our charity target for 2023. As well as being very proud of our team members who took part in these challenges.”

Mike Severs, Sales & Marketing Director at Volumatic, said, “After supporting a charity close to the heart of one of our employees last year, we were looking for a new charity to support for 2023 and when our friends from the Co-op got in touch, we were more than happy to make a donation and support their remarkable efforts. To raise over £1.2 million for Barnardo’s is an incredible achievement and one that Volumatic is proud to be part of – though we’re very glad it was them getting covered in mud rather than us!”
