United Wholesale (Scotland) (UWS) has kicked off a major digital upgrade across its Day-Today symbol estate, rolling out interactive in-store screens designed to boost shopper engagement and promotional compliance.

As part of the initiative, more than 15 stores have already been fitted with at least four digital screens each. These include a "Spin to Win" touchscreen where customers can win free products, tied into either weekly or promotional cycles. Winners receive printed vouchers redeemable at the till, with UWS reimbursing the retailer for the product given away.

The screens come at no cost to the retailer and are centrally managed by UWS. They will feature Day-Today promotions alongside paid-for supplier campaigns, offering an added layer of data and feedback on customer response to specific ads.

“This is about leading the way in digital,” said Symbol Director Mike Leonard. “Central control of in-store mechanics will help drive uniformity and compliance across the group.”

To qualify for installation, stores must meet operational standards and commit to a five-year agreement. UWS aims to complete rollouts across 88 eligible stores within the next four months.

Last month, UWS announced the launch of a newly revamped Day-Today store in Pentland Place in Kirkcaldy. Operated by retailer Adeel, the store represents a fresh benchmark for UWS’s next-generation retail standards.

Following a comprehensive refit, the store now boasts modern features including doored refrigeration, a dedicated Beer Cave, an enhanced Food to Go section, and a redesigned counter with upgraded woodwork throughout.

Day-Today store in Pentland Place has also been installed with new digital screens which enable Adeel to showcase current promotions and increase shopper engagement through interactive initiatives. The new Pentland Place store stands as a strong example of UWS’s ongoing investment in independent retail and community-driven convenience.

Earlier in May, UWS unveiled its ambitious plans to grow the business, raising turnover to £500million by 2030 – up from about £300m at the end of 2024.

Central to this ambitious growth strategy is a renewed focus on its Day-Today and USave symbol stores, alongside a reinforced proposition for independent operators
