Wad is god: cash resurgent, say handlers Volumatic

Five years on from the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK’s cash landscape has seen a resurgence few predicted. While digital payment options continue to grow, cash is proving its staying power, and for businesses it means a time to reassess how cash is handled.

Recent reports from Paysafe, the FCA, UK Finance, and Nationwide Building Society all confirm the same trend: cash usage is climbing. In fact, since 2021, cash withdrawals have risen nearly 30 per cent, with more consumers choosing cash to help manage budgets, particularly amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

The introduction of new FCA rules safeguarding access to cash, alongside the rollout of cash hubs, has also made it easier for businesses and consumers to engage with cash. Yet despite this renewed momentum, some retailers continue to go cashless, risking alienation of customers who rely on cash for financial control.

“Cash usage is growing year on year, which clearly shows customer demand,” says Mike Severs, Sales & Marketing Director at Volumatic. “If your business accepts cash, now is the time to enhance how you process it. Investing in smart cash handling technology can make your daily cash processing more efficient and reduce your bottom line.”

Volumatic’s intelligent cash handling solutions are designed to meet today’s retail demands. The award winning CounterCache intelligent (CCi)offers real-time note validation, secure storage, and automated counting directly at the point of sale. When paired with Volumatic’s latest cash management software, CashView Enterprise, it enables estate-wide visibility and accurate reporting from till to bank.
