Dubai is an ultra-modern city with blazing hot weather and amazing shopping malls. It is conveniently located, being only a six-hour flight from London and there are many flights to Dubai daily. In this guide we will advise on where the most interesting and unique spots can be found, moreover, we will advise on some of the dos and don’ts in Dubai.

If you are interested in working there, be sure to check out our guide to getting an amazing job in Dubai. The economy is booming, with the Emirate diversifying its investments; building new amazing skyscrapers and experiences. A truly mesmerizing city, there is much to take in. But, as Dubai is a strict Islamic country, there are many cultural differences. There are some amazing things to discover, but there are some things to take into consideration.

There are some incredible modern skyscrapers in Dubai, but the most breathtaking has to be the Burj Khalifa. Standing at 828 meters, it is the tallest building in the world, being 30% higher than the second tallest building – The Shanghai Tower. The building has some magnificent features such as The Observation Deck, which gives a breathtaking view of Dubai, and if the tide is low and the visibility clear, the shores of Iran can be seen. Situated on-site is the Dubai Fountain, which in the evening has a fountain show. The 6600 fountains are illuminated with bright colors and contemporary Arabic music is played. It is a unique and poignant experience.

You cannot visit Dubai without going to one of their tax-free malls. There are plenty of high-end designer brands including Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, and Gucci products sold at a very fair price. Moreover, as Dubai is a very diverse city, there are a plethora of options for restaurants and cuisines to try. An excellent place to try would be the Asil Restaurant that serves Lebanese, Moroccan, and Turkish food. It has an authentic interior with very polite staff and a nice atmosphere for dining and even has a stage for DJs and bands to perform in the evenings.

The transport infrastructure of Dubai is first class; therefore, the metro system should be used to get around cheaply. It will get you to most tourist sites and will keep you cool as Dubai can get very hot and humid. On the metro, it is important to remember that it stops running at 1 am and the carriages at the end are for women and children.

Regular things Westerners may take for granted are outlawed in Dubai. For example, you are not allowed to kiss and cuddle with your partner in public as it is deemed offensive. Swearing in public as well as eating on public transport are both prohibited and may end up with an arrest. Although drinking is permitted in specific hotels, do not drink in public or you may get in trouble. All types of gambling are banned meaning there are no casinos like most places in the Middle East. If you are an Arabic player and wish to play casino games like blackjack and roulette, there are comparison sites that check for the best bonuses for new and existing players. They include welcome and no deposit bonuses. Additionally, they provide thorough reviews and advice on how to claim the bonus. It is important to note that there is a race track but betting on the horses is not allowed at the location.

If you are to go to Dubai, be sure not to visit during Ramadan unless you are a Muslim. Eating, smoking, and drinking — even in hotel lobbies are banned from sunrise to sunset. Restaurants are closed and the only place you can eat is in your hotel room. Loud music and parties are forbidden and when in public you will have to dress very conservatively.

There are many amazing places to see in Dubai and exhilarating things to do but do consider the difference in culture. It is a great place to go on holiday, with excellent weather and gorgeous beaches, not to mention the shopping. Just make sure to prepare accordingly and it will be a trip of a lifetime!
