Tesco has strengthened its position as the leading supermarket in the roll-out of electric home delivery vans, with its 2,000th electric van arriving this week at Tesco Hemsworth Superstore in West Yorkshire, where the store runs six home delivery vans.
Tesco has doubled the number of electric home delivery vans over the last year, with more than 30% of the fleet now powered by electricity.
The milestone marks significant progress in Tesco’s transition to a fully electric home delivery fleet in the UK by the end of 2030, and builds on the retailer's continued investment in reducing carbon emissions across its operations.
Since introducing its first electric home delivery van in Greater London in 2020, Tesco's growing fleet of electric vehicles, powered by renewable electricity, has replaced millions of diesel delivery miles and helped reduce emissions while improving air quality in communities across the UK.
Tesco continues to rapidly expand its electric home delivery van fleet as part of its ambition to become net zero across its own operations by 2035.
Tesco announced in October 2025 the deployment of its 1,000th electric home delivery van, which entered service at the Cardiff Extra store, marking a significant milestone in the retailer's transition.
By transitioning its entire UK home delivery fleet to electric power, Tesco estimates the impact would be equivalent to taking around 22,000 cars off the road each year.
