Swizzels marks 70 years of Refreshers with ‘refresh’ initiative

Retailers join Swizzels’ Refresh campaign, uplifting local spaces with volunteer support

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Refreshers, British sweet-maker Swizzels has launched The Great Community Refresh – a nationwide initiative to give back to those who have supported the brand for decades.

Swizzels is giving away seven prizes of £1,000, one for each decade of Refreshers, to refresh and revive community spaces across the UK.

Whether it’s new supplies for local clubs, plants for a community garden, or a mural for a shared space, the competition will help winners bring their local projects to life and brighten up their neighbourhoods.

The countdown is on with just over three weeks left for people to submit their entries for The Great Community Refresh – all nominations need to be received by 30 June at 11:59pm.

To enter, people need to visit the Swizzels website and share why their chosen community project deserves the prize and how it will be used to make a lasting difference. Retailers are encouraged to nominate spaces, groups, clubs or initiatives in their local area to help make a positive difference in their communities and bring people together.

A panel of judges will select seven winning projects in July, which will each receive a £1,000 prize to make their community refresh a reality.

“We’re excited to be marking 70 years of Refreshers by giving back to the communities that have supported Swizzels for generations," said Clare Newton, trade and shopper marketing manager. "The Great Community Refresh is all about brightening up neighbourhoods, bringing people together and showcasing the wealth of community spirit in the UK.

“Through this competition, we want to spread the joy of Refreshers even further, inspiring and supporting people to uplift and refresh places, spaces and initiatives in their area. With entries open for just three more weeks, we encourage people to submit their projects as soon as possible to be in with a chance of bringing their visions to life. Retailers can get involved by spreading the word in their communities and nominating spaces or initiatives in their area in need of a refresh.”

To be eligible, projects, groups or initiatives need to be community or volunteer-led or not-for-profit and must be based in the UK. For further details on the terms and conditions, please visit the Swizzels website.
