Musgrave NI convenience brands SuperValu and Centra have raised a record £253,000 for charity partner Action Cancer in 2025, taking their total fundraising contribution to more than £4.25 million since the partnership began in 2001.

The fundraising total was achieved through a series of campaigns and store-led initiatives across the retail network during the year. Among the biggest contributors was the annual Centra Run Together 5k and 10k races, which attracted 1,600 runners and raised £38,000 at the October 2025 event.

Coffee brand Frank and Honest also supported the campaign through its Espresso We Care initiative, generating more than £25,000 after donating 50p from every coffee sold over four days in September.

Independent retailers across the network also played a key role in the fundraising effort. Woods’ SuperValu Fruitfield in Richhill raised £14,100 through a team skydive, while Centra Prince Andrew Way in Carrickfergus generated £5,100 through raffles and in-store activities. Moran’s Centra Strand Road in Derry/Londonderry contributed a further £3,000.

Funds raised by the retailers help keep Action Cancer’s Big Bus mobile screening service operating across Northern Ireland. In 2025, the Big Bus visited 130 communities, delivering 2,226 mammograms, 1,016 health checks and 230 skin cancer assessments. Half of those receiving health checks were referred to their GP for further investigation.

“Year after year, we continue to raise more for Action Cancer than we ever thought was possible when our partnership began in 2001,” Maurice Cusack, head of retail marketing at Musgrave NI, said.

“This year, it’s been truly inspiring to see the incredible individual efforts from our retail partners. The unwavering support of our customers, retail partners and colleagues continues to amaze us every year.”

Action Cancer chief executive Gareth Kirk said the partnership was critical to sustaining the Big Bus service, particularly in communities affected by deprivation. The charity said the majority of the 130 communities visited by the Big Bus in 2025 were located within the top 50 per cent most deprived areas in Northern Ireland.

“With the continued support and commitment of Musgrave NI, its retail partners and customers, it is our aim for 2026 is to visit even more locations and to reach even more people and in doing so to make a difference to more women just like Victoria,” Kirk said.

Additional fundraising activity during the year included the Sponsor a Mammogram campaign, which raised £6,000 to support 50 mammogram screenings, alongside SuperValu’s sponsorship of Breast Foot Forward.
