Retailers should consider stocking sunscreens and other summer essentials as recent reports suggest that Britons have already started seeking summer’s most popular purchases, with sunscreen searches rising by 63 percent.

According to Ocado’s week-on-week data comparing 4 to 10 March and 11 to 17 March, there has been a spike for BBQs and picnics, with the search terms spiking by 63 percent and 27 percent respectively.

Searches for ice lollies also grew by 11 percent, while alcoholic beverages such as Pimms and Whispering Angel increased by 29 percent and 34 percent respectively. The highest boost in searches came from people looking for hay fever remedies, with the search term up by  an eye-watering 143 percent.

“With some welcome spring sun bracing the UK this weekend, it looks like Brits are getting ready to bask in the warmer temperatures,” Ocado Retail chief customer officer Laura Harricks said.

Ocado report’s findings comes amid reports that temperatures could soar to 20C in London as spring ushers in seven days of sunshine across southern England. Forecasters have advises sunseekers to stock up on sunscreen.
