A convenience store staff was injured and had to be taken to hospital after a knifepoint robbery attempt in Stoke-on-Trent, stated recent reports.

The incident happened at Smithpool News, on Smithpool Road, in Fenton, on Tuesday (7) night when a man entered the store with a knife and made threats to a member of staff. After a short struggle, the suspect fled the scene.

The 48-year-old staff member who was injured was taken to hospital with hand and facial injuries.

Local reports quoted West Midlands Ambulance Service’s statement that it treated a man for a “serious injury” before taking him to hospital.

“We were called to reports of an assault on Smithpool Road at 8.39pm, one ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene,” reports quoted an ambulance service spokesman as saying.

Staffordshire Police has confirmed that it is investigating an armed robbery at the convenience store.

“We were called at 8.45pm last night (Tuesday 7 June) to Smithpool Road in Fenton following a report that a man had entered a shop with a knife and made threats to a member of staff,” stated the police press release, appealing any witnesses or anyone with any information to get in touch via social media or 101 quoting incident number 769 of 7 June.
