Stockport store-owners are witnessing a spike in anti-social behavior as groups of young people are found to be haranguing workers and shoppers in town centres by riding bikes into the shops and throwing items around.
The Stockport police have issued a stark warning in this regard.
As per local reports, the police’s warning follows a surge in anti-social behaviour involving kids as young as nine around Merseyway Shopping Centre.
The behaviour usually includes groups of up to 25 boys and girls fighting amongst each other and invading shops to intimidate staff and making a mess by throwing items around the shop.
A shop worker working at local newsagent in the area told Manchester Evening News how anti-social behaviour has always been an issue, but it has definitely increased in recent months.
“They come in and ask for a vape but as soon as I ask for some ID they just start shouting abuse,” the shop worker told the media outlet.
“A group of six will all come in at the same time with some just stealing stock, I tell them to stop what they’re doing but they just don’t listen. I’m in here on my own and need to be behind the kiosk, it can be very intimidating when there’s a big group.”
All surrounding businesses were suffering with young groups running riot over recent weeks.
Following an exceptionally notorious day over the weekend (26), police issued warning on social media asking parents to to make sure their kids aren’t visiting the area after school and getting involved in trouble.
