Sriracha hot sauce might be in shortage in stores soon as its production has been suspended as the hot sauce company reportedly doesn’t have enough chilli peppers due to “weather conditions”
Southern California-based Huy Fong Inc confirmed that its beloved products, including Sriracha Hot Chilli Sauce, Chilli Garlic and Sambal Oelek, would be affected, according to Bloomberg.
According to recent reports, Huy Fong Foods, the makers of the hot sauce, has announced in a letter that they are experiencing a shortage of chilli peppers due to “weather conditions.”
“Unfortunately, this is out of our control and without this essential ingredient we are unable to produce any of our products,” the letter reads.
“We understand this may cause issues. However, during this time we will not accept any new orders to be placed before September as we will not have enough inventory to fulfil your order,” the company added.
Although the company’s letter did not specify what “weather conditions” had caused the chilli pepper shortage, it is being pointed out that the makers procured peppers that come from Mexico which is currently going through drought conditions.
According to the most recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the climate crisis might severely threaten food availability around the world with floods, droughts, heat waves and sea level rise.
Reactions online to the news of the hot sauce shortage have ranged from the dramatic “God help us all” to others hailing it as a “sign of the apocalypse”.
